AN AREA of Wrexham will undergo an essential pipe upgrade scheme in the new year.

Gas emergency and pipeline service, Wales & West Utilities is undertaking programme in the Queen Street area of Cefn Mawr.

The £55,000 work, which is said to be essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area, will begin on 2 January 2020.

Barring any engineering difficulties, it will be complete at the end of February.

As part of the work, it has been agreed with Wrexham County Borough Council that a traffic management plan will be in place.

This involves phased road closures in Cefn Mawr for the duration of the scheme.

The initial closure will begin on January 2, where Queen Street will be closed from the junction of Dolydd Road to Plas Kynaston Terrace. Access for residents will be maintained throughout the works where possible and diversion routes will be clearly signposted.

Wales & West Utilities' Dave Wood is managing the work.

He said: “We know that working on roads like these is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Cefn Mawr. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.”
