A CHESTER resident has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder after a man was found seriously injured in the street.

Paul Andrews, 61, of Alder Grove, Hoole, appeared at Chester Crown Court on Friday (December 20) via video link from Altcourse Prison.

He denied attempting to kill Russell Feeney on October 3 this year, and also denied an alternative charge of wounding with intent.

However, he pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed article in relation to a lock knife that was discovered in his possession when he was questioned at Blacon police station.

The case has now been listed for trial before a jury during the week commencing March 23. Andrews will remain in custody until then.

At the time, Cheshire Police issued a statement saying officers had been called to Alder Grove to discover a 57-year-old man seriously injured in the street.

He was rushed to hospital where he was described as being in a critical but stable condition.

A police spokesman told the Standard on Friday that Mr Feeney had now been discharged.
