A SPECIAL remembrance service was held at Hoole Church of England Primary School to remember the fallen.

Pupils and staff at the school were joined for the remembrance event by the Sheriff of Chester Cllr Gill Watson, Reverend John Kirkland, school governors and invited guests from a local residential home.

During the service, every pupil planted a poppy to create a school garden of remembrance.

Ros Flanders, headteacher, said: "We are so proud of the pupils in our school. The showed great respect for the sacrifice of servicemen and women we talked about in our remembrance service.

"The garden of remembrance they created is a wonderful reminder to them of the debt of gratitude we owe to so many who have served our country."

Prior to the remembrance service, pupils had engaged in a prayer space activity to find out about and reflect upon local servicemen and women.

Rachel Inns, who organised two days of activities in school, said: "The children responded so positively and their contributions showed how maturely they had reflected on the theme of remembrance."

The school plans to create a permanent remembrance installation inside the school created using the poppies over coming weeks.
