IT has been a busy time for youngsters at a school in Neston.

Year 3 pupils at Woodfall Primary and Nursery School have been taking part in a weekly Forest school session within the school woodland area this term.

The sessions provide an opportunity for children to develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences, with activities such as cooking on fire, tree climbing, den building and other tasks.

The emphasis of Forest Schools is on play and child-led learning, the children themselves select the activity they wish to do.

Meanwhile, for Mental Health Awareness Day, infant children enjoyed watching a play titled What’s up Alfie?

They enjoyed a superb performance from AltruDrama to highlight mental health.

The play offers practical solutions to dealing with angry feelings, falling out with friends and finding school work difficult.

The school was also delighted to welcome Chloe Daykin, author of Fire Girl Forest Boy.

She entertained and inspired everyone in her assembly, telling the school all about the inspiration for her newest book.

She was so impressed with the work Woodfall pupils have been doing to raise awareness of unsustainable palm oil.

She spent time speaking to Year 4 pupils and then worked with Year 3 for the afternoon creating special books about magical powers.
