ELLESMERE PORT'S Community Cinema is to celebrate its first-year anniversary with its next movie night.

Situated in Station Road next to the old Station Hotel, the cinema originally opened its doors in 2018 as the NCC Community Cinema. The name was changed to ‘The Port Cinema’ in January this year.

Its next movie night will feature the Danny Boyle-directed comedy Yesterday, on Friday, November 15.

Speaking about the anniversary, Duncan Lewis from the cinema said: "I don’t think any of us can quite believe how quickly the year has flown by.

"We’ve had some great nights here and when we have the lighting set low and the movie up on the big screen it really is a lovely place to come and watch a film.

"We have a fantastic group of regulars and It’s also somewhere where people have felt happy to just come along on their own, there’s always a great friendly welcome."

The cinema has also been home to the monthly Messy Mischief Makers family movie afternoon.

Duncan said: "The ladies who run Messy Mischief Makers work tirelessly in the community to put on many events and the family Saturday Movies really were a great part of their work."

The movie nights are always free entry, with free refreshments provided by ‘The Port Grocery

Duncan added: "It’s wonderful to have the support of the good people at The Port Grocery – there are however real costs to offering the movie events for free, film licences, advertising etc and we are open to any individuals or organisation who would like to help support us and to help keep the community cinema funded and going.

"It’s not just about the great films we put on but also the opportunity for people to meet up in a safe, friendly environment and have a really lovely, entertaining night – it’s a community."

Doors open at 7pm on Friday, November 15, with the feature Yesterday starting at 7.30pm.
