A MAN has pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of a 78-year-old Ellesmere Port woman.

Wayne Hill, 52, who is from Ellesmere Port but has recently been living on London Road in Sandbach, appeared at Chester Crown Court via videolink from HMP Altcourse to answer the sole charge.

The attempted murder happened in Penistone Drive, Little Sutton shortly before 10.45pm on Tuesday, August 20, with Hill arrested in the area a short time later.

Sentencing was adjourned to late November for a pre-sentence probation report and a psychiatric report to be obtained, with Hill remanded in custody.

Recorder of Chester Judge Steven Everett told Hill: "I don't want you to be under any illusions; you are going to prison for a long time, whether it's life imprisonment or an extended sentence or a long prison sentence.

"You are going to be seen by psychiatrist and will be seen by a probation officer and those reports will assist the judge in considering your dangerousness.

"You will get credit for your guilty plea."
