ELDERLY residents in Ellesmere Port raved away BBC Music Day with a pop-up nightclub in their care home garden.

The inflatable golden cube, with disco lights, a DJ and red carpet entrance, was installed at Aaron Court Care Home, on Princes Road, to mark the occasion.

Residents, family members, friends and staff all enjoyed a dance in the 'rave tent', so called by provider Widnes Bouncy Castle Hire.

Instead of the electronic dance music and strobe lighting, the care home’s nightclub include residents’ favourite songs, from Elvis Presley to Dame Vera Lynn.

Singer and entertainer Chris Jones, who performed live at the event, also took the time to visit residents unable to leave their beds due to mobility issues, performing their favourite hits in their rooms.

Lindsey Quegan, home manager at Aaron Court Care Home, said: “The day was a huge hit with the residents, with many intrigued by the pop-up nightclub.

“One resident in particular came out of her room to engage in a group-based activity for the first time ever and thoroughly enjoyed the event. She sang and danced away with other residents and staff.

“Family members could dance with their loved ones and were amazed at how much they were enjoying themselves. One said 'we must get a video of this because we might never see anything like this again'.

“It was a great way to mark BBC Music Day and the launch of their Memories website and radio station, which I’m sure we’ll be making use of at Aaron Court.”

BBC Music Day saw the launch of the BBC Music Memories website and its Memory Radio function.

Designed specifically for people living with dementia, the site aims to stimulate memory through music by helping people reconnect with music from their past using the extensive BBC archives. Visit www.musicmemories.bbcrewind.co.uk to learn more.
