YOUNG aces from Ellesmere Port and Neston have been honoured for making a difference at an awards ceremony.

Cheshire West and Chester Council Early Help and Prevention Service celebrated the work of young people and those who support them at the recent West Cheshire Youth and Community Awards 2019 event.

The event, held at Northwich Memorial Court, recognised young people in west Cheshire and those dedicated individuals and groups who support 13- to 19-year-olds to help them to thrive, grow and flourish.

Cllr Nicole Meardon, Cabinet Member Children and Families, said: “It was a fantastic evening. We were overwhelmed by the number and quality of nominations we received.

“It is evident there is some fantastic work taking place across our borough and I am delighted we were able to take the opportunity to recognise the people involved.

“I would like to offer my personal congratulations to everyone who received an award and to thank all those who took the time to submit a nomination. Without your contributions we would not have heard of all the brilliant work being undertaken.”

In the Ellesmere Port and Neston area, winners included:

  • Poppy-Mae Jones, Young Person Outstanding Achievement: 'An amazing little lady who has raised more than £5,000 for charity. An inspirational story of one so young wanting to give back to her community.’
  • Isla Ludgate, Young Person Care for Others: ‘A kind, hard-working individual who helps to care for their older sibling. Always a smile, their personality has a big impact on people. Isla’s caring nature shines out.’
  • The Boaty Theatre Company, Mental Health or Wellbeing Project: ‘Inspiring young people to accept who they are, be confident in their ability and help others to recognise diversity...young people grew in confidence and their self-esteem and sense of self-worth glowed!’
  • Carol Stott, Adult Volunteer of the Year: ‘Carol’s commitment, passion and enthusiasm has meant an ever presence in the lives of generations of Neston residents.’
  • Peter Webb, Young Person Volunteer of the Year: ‘An asset to Choices SEND Youth Project, volunteering hours to support young people through music skills. An exceptional young volunteer. ’
  • Neston Primary School Rotakids Group, Partnership of the Year: ‘One of the first schools in the North West to establish a Rotakids Group. Since set up the children have raised over £4,000 for charities.’
  • Simon Skidmore, Inspirational Youth Worker: ‘A truly inspirational youth worker who goes above and beyond to support children and teenagers. Dedicated and kind and sets such a great example for young people to follow.’
  • Jon Butler, Young Person Inspire Award: ‘An inspiration to both staff and members of Choices SEND Youth Project. The young people at the group really like and appreciate Jon. An asset to our Youth Service.’
