A TEAM of volunteers from Chester city’s business community came together to take on a city-wide clean-up for the annual Big Dee Day.

The week-long event, organised by Cheshire West and Chester Council, Flintshire Council and Natural Resources Wales, returned bigger and better than ever, for an impressive 13th year.

Staff from a number of local businesses such as Tesco, Flintshire Rangers, McDonald's and M&S Banking, took to the streets to transform areas across the city by collecting rubbish, with over half a tonne of litter collected along the River Dee alone.

The clean-up kicked off with a very successful community event hosted by The Friends of Caldy Valley Park.

Cllr Karen Shore, deputy leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Strategic Transport said: “Big Dee Day goes from strength to strength and it’s great that we’ve been able to work alongside colleagues from Flintshire on projects this year. Everyone has achieved fantastic results.

“I would like to thank everyone involved, for giving up their time and making a difference.”

This year’s Big Dee Clean-up was hosted by Flintshire Council and saw the launch of an awards ceremony recognising businesses and organisations that have supported Big Dee Day for a number of years.
