TWO of Little Sutton’s hidden gems located on Berwick Road in Little Sutton have doubled up in keeping children active and introducing them to new sports.

Little Sutton C of E Primary School took children from their before- and after-school Conker Club down to Hooton Lawn Tennis Club for a fun tennis session.

Hooton Lawn Tennis Club has been established in the local area for over 100 years, while Little Sutton C of E Primary School has had a presence on Berwick Road since the 19th century.

Yet despite both Hooton Tennis Club and Little Sutton C of E having such a long history in the area, they're tucked away location on a residential road, meaning they remain undiscovered to many.

Chairman of Hooton Lawn Tennis Club Kevin Thompson said: “A lot of people get confused by our name and imagine we are in Hooton, not right in Little Sutton.

"It’s a great club and we have a lot to offer like four artificial grass courts, two of which are floodlit, as well as a clubhouse with bar area, changing rooms and outdoor seating. People are always surprised when they find out we’re here.

"We are particularly keen to encourage young people to play tennis, and were pleased to invite the youngsters from Little Sutton C of E to use our fantastic facilities.”

Donna Graham, manager of Conker Club, the in-school provision that offers wraparound care for families at Little Sutton echoed the sentiments.

She said: “Many know Little Sutton C of E Primary School as Berwick Road School, but over the years as new roads and houses have been built, the school has become more hidden than ever.

"We love the location of the school, on a quiet residential road, and we have massive grounds too. This space means we can do lots of fun activities and sport with the children at school, and at before and after school club.

"But when we introduced new themed sessions at Conker Club recently, we knew we had to take advantage of the excellent tennis facilities right on our doorstep at Hooton Lawn Tennis Club. Conker Club are looking forward to their next tennis session at the club in October.”

Little Sutton C of E Primary School is holding open mornings for reception 2020 on Friday, October 18 and Thursday, November 21, both 10am-11.30am. For details, call 0151 338 2244.
