A CHESTER pilates instructor was looking for an original way to raise money for Bridge Community Farms and Wellness Gardens.

So Melody Dean walked up Moel Famau every day throughout July. So far, she has raised more £820 for the charity.

Melody, who runs Melody Dean Pilates & Lifestyle in Chester, set herself the challenge of climbing Moel Famau, the highest hill within the Clwydian Range, to highlight the benefit that nature has on mental health.

Bridge Community Farms and Wellness Gardens in Ellesmere Port supports those coping with mental health and learning difficulties in the therapeutic environment of their 10-acre farm.

They also create jobs for the long term unemployed growing fresh vegetables, salads, herbs and fruit in their fields and poly tunnels.

Melody, who does a challenge every year to raise money for charity, says: “A number of my pilates clients told me about the incredible work done at Bridge Community Farms and, as a huge advocate of the benefits nature and food has on our vitality, I couldn’t think of a cause that aligned better with my values.

“This local charity does incredible work in our community growing, sourcing and delivering high quality, organic produce and creating a safe, educational and supportive space for people struggling with their mental and physical wellness.

“The place they have created is a sanctuary away from the plagues of the mind and of the world and I believe they are saving lives.

“To help support them, I set myself the challenge of hiking up Moel Famau every day during July and was overwhelmed with the support I received.”

Bridge Community Farms General Manager Clair Johnson said: “The people who support us is what makes us special and we were touched and delighted that Melody is championing our work.”
