STUDENTS at The Whitby High School Sixth Form are celebrating after securing a fantastic set of results.

They achieved the highest percentage of A*/A (or equivalent) grades in recent years and are delighted that their efforts have paid off.

Lisa Begbie, assistant headteacher at the school, said: “This set of results represents the commitment, tenacity and hard work of our sixth formers.

"We are immensely proud of them all and the people that they have become.

"Our sixth formers are exceptional role models to our school community and they have proved that strong partnerships between students, teachers and families result in success.

"We wish them the best of luck for the next phase of their lives and happy, successful futures.”

There were many outstanding performances this year: Sophie Ashley with A*A*AB; Eve Davies with A*AB; Lauren Hutchinson with AAB; Denis Usov with Dist* Dist A; Aisha Abdel-Samie with A*BC; Neo Field-Davies and James Forster with Dist*Dist Dist; Ben Martin and Charlotte Cameron with Dist* Dist B; Ellie McKay with Dist* BB and Corey Anderson with AAC.

Added to this are many other individual successes where students have shown real resilience in the face of challenges to secure excellent results.

University destinations for the school's students include: accounting and finance at the University of Leeds; mathematics with ocean and climate sciences at the University of Liverpool; chemical and molecular physics at the University of Nottingham; law at the University of Liverpool; social work at Lancaster University; chemical engineering at Newcastle University; history and politics at the University of Liverpool; computer science at the University of Liverpool; economics with international business at Manchester Metropolitan University and interior design at the University of Chester among many others.

Competitive higher apprenticeship placements have also been secured by a large number of students in areas including engineering; automotive; finance and accountancy.

Bryn Heeley, headteacher of The Whitby High School, said: “I am extremely pleased with the results gained by our students particularly as there has been such a significant increase in the rigour within the new courses, as this brings to an end an era in the students’ lives these results will give them a head start in the new era about to begin, I wish them all well.”
