A 94-YEAR-OLD golfer from Abergele achieved his second ever hole in one last week.

On Thursday, Dennis Chamberlain hit the cleanest of shots at the Town's Golf Club for what was the second time in his 36 year playing career.

Dennis says he first hit a hole in one at the Fenton open "many, many years ago" but added that the wait for his second was "well worth it".

"I enjoy playing golf as its a sport that I can really appreciate," he said.

"Sometimes you have a great day out there, other times it can throw you off a bit. You never know what you're going to get and that's what I like about it."

A former industrial chemist with Castrol, Dennis says he took up golf as a hobby when he retired at the age of 57.

At the time, he was living in Chester and became a member of the Vicars Cross Golf Club.

He then moved to Abergele twenty years ago, where he has continued to play golf on a regular basis, most often on Monday and Saturday.

He added that, although he does watch golf on television, he doesn't have an idol as such - instead he prefers to play the sport himself.

Dennis, who previously served as a marine, said: "It feels nice to say that I've had another hole in one now, although I'm not one to gloat.

"I like to keep my head down and just enjoy the sport. It's all just a bit of fun."

At the time of his interview, Dennis joked he had endured a different "hole in one" altogether during the week - when his car suffered a puncture to one of its tyres.

He saw the funny side however, allowing photographer Kerry Roberts to photograph him with the car whilst it awaits its new wheel (above).

"It was a two for one in terms of hole in ones in this case," Dennis added.
