POLICE are investigating an assault and attempted robbery near Helsby in which a woman driver was slashed on the neck with a pair of scissors.

Between 10.15pm and 10.30pm yesterday (Monday, August 12) a 26-year-old woman was driving along Low Hill in Dunham-on-the-Hill when she spotted someone running towards her in the middle of the road.

The woman in the road was waving her arms in the air and the driver stopped her car to see if she was okay.

The woman in the road then opened the passenger side door and grabbed a pair of scissors from inside the car.

She demanded money from the driver and swung the scissors towards her several times.

The scissors made contact with the victim’s neck, causing a minor injury.

The victim then managed to push the offender away from the car and drive off along Low Hill and then the A56 Chester Road towards Chester.

The offender is described as white and around 40 years old. She had a gaunt face, dark-coloured eyes and thick, curly, brown hair that came down to just above her elbows.

She was wearing a deep red, short-sleeved T-shirt which had a round neck and she spoke with a northern accent.

Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and detectives are appealing for anyone who was in the area and witnessed anything that may help the investigation to get in touch.

They also want to speak to anyone who believes that they may have dashcam footage of the offender or information regarding her identity.

Detective Constable Leanne Abbott said: “The victim was subjected to a terrifying ordeal and has understandably been left extremely shaken up.

“Thankfully she only sustained a minor neck injury. The consequences of this incident could have been far worse.

“I would like to reassure the community that this is believed to be an isolated incident and we are determined to establish the offender’s identity and make her face the consequences of her actions.

“Enquiries are ongoing and I urge anyone who was in the area and believes that they may have seen the offender to come forward.

“The same goes for anyone who thinks they may know who the offender is or have dashcam footage of her.”
