THIS is the moment a Flintshire mum surprised her husband with an unexpected choir performance at their wedding.

Melanie and Michael Sterry tied the knot at Mold Registry Office on July 13.

The couple, from Queensferry, met by chance at a one-off soul and motown event at the Gateway To Wales Hotel in 2012.

After asking the DJ to play David Alexander's The Answer, she was approached by Mr Sterry - who asked "who the heck asked him to play this?"

"The rest was history and that became our song," she told the Leader.

"When we were planning the wedding, I desperately wanted a choir to sing it."

She approached Choir! - a Rock and Pop Choir based in Prestatyn and Denbigh - who agreed to help make her dream come true.

Mrs Sterry, 49, said: "They said they had never been asked to do a wedding before, so I think they were a bit shocked when I asked them. "I met them with my chief bridesmaid, Helen Bainbridge-Hough, and we discussed what we wanted.

"(Michael) had no idea. It was hilarious, because he saw a group of people congregating in the car park opposite the registry office.

"And because they were all wearing matching t-shirts, he thought they were meeting for some kind of keep fit boot camp."

Mrs Sterry was given away by her two youngest sons Joe, 22, and Cameron, 15. When the big moment came, she said her husband was blown away by the surprise.

Describing the scene, she said: "At the end of the ceremony as we walked out, that's when they started.

"They sang our song and he was over the moon - he almost cried, he was so touched.

"It was just amazing and it gave me goosebumps. It was even better than I imagined it would be."

Mr Sterry, 57, said: "As we turned to leave the ceremony, I wondered what music was playing.

"All of a sudden I recognised it and I was really gobsmacked. "It was a real surprise and they sang it so well. I felt very emotional."

Following their special day, the couple enjoyed a mini-honeymoon in a log cabin between Aberystwyth and Aberaeron.

Lowri Wynne, co-founder of Choir!, said: "Melanie contacted me out of the blue on the the remote chance that we may be able to sing at her wedding.

"A friend of a friend had shown her a video of us singing and she liked what she heard.

"The atmosphere was unbelievable. As soon as the bride and groom walked out as husband and wife we started singing.

"There were lots of tears from the wedding party and a few from the choir too.

"Everyone agreed that it was a beautiful day and the choir thoroughly enjoyed performing for such a lovely couple."
