SCORES of supporters turned out at Airbus UK Broughton's ground on Sunday, July 7 for the third charity football game in memory of a much-missed Airbus employee.
For the third year in a row, the Badgers Boys squad took on the Once Upon a Smile celebrity-filled team, as funds continue to be raised in memory of father-of-two John 'Badger' Park.
John sadly died in February 2017 of a heart attack, having gone to work at Airbus as normal, at the age of just 53.
After the inaugural fundraising match in 2017 raised £3,600 and resulted in a 7-7 draw, the rematch was held in 2018, with a further £3,800 raised and the scoreline ending in favour of the Badgers Boys, 5-2.
This year the scoreline was even more emphatic, the Badgers Boys romping to victory 8-2 in a match watched by over 150 people.
They triumphed over a team featuring famous faces such as Emmerdale actors Jay Kontzle and Danny Miller – the latter co-founding Once Upon a Smile.
Organiser Suzanne Fairman explained money from this year's event, which will be split between the British Heart Foundation and Once Upon a Smile charities, is still being collected but had already passed £2,100, with more to come from an eBay auction of signed items.
One such item is a signed sketch of Once Upon a Smile co-founders Danny Miller and Daniel Jillings, available at www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Danny-Miller-Daniel-Jillings-signed-sketch-Artist-Samantha-Garrett/183875212212.
Suzanne added that meant more than £10,000 will have been raised for the charities since the event was set up.
