SEVEN neighbours from New Ferry are celebrating after winning an astonishing £30,000 each thanks to the People's Postcode Lottery.

The residents had ambassador Jeff Brazier knock on their doors after their CH62 postcode was drawn as the People's Postcode Lottery's Street Prize winner on Monday, July 8.

One of the winners was Arrowe Park Hospital midwife Laura Marr who says she will now be able to put down a deposit to but her own home.

The 35-year-old said:: "When I was at university my course was so full on that I couldn’t work alongside it and since I graduated in 2014 it’s been pretty difficult to save, but now I can look forward to house hunting and getting on the property ladder!

“I’ve lived in this house all my life and have grown up alongside some of my neighbours who have also won.

"It’s lovely to share this experience together and we’ve already arranged to go around and celebrate with some prosecco!”

Other winners include retired pharmacy technician Jane Dunroe.

The 71-year-old has lived at the winning postcode for 51 years and was joined by her two children Ian and Laura as well as son-in-law Wayne when she received a knock on her door.

She said: "I was only expecting £1,000 – I didn’t dream for one minute that it would be £30,000.

"I was meant to be going to Chester with my friend today but I’m glad I stayed in now. I’m made up!

“There’s not much I need, except some new windows for the house, so I’ll be mainly sharing this out between the kids and my three grandkids.

"I get a lot of enjoyment from seeing my family happy and if your nan can’t spoil you then who can?!

“This is a really smashing neighbourhood, and I’ve some of the best neighbours you could ask for. It’s brilliant so many of us have won today.”

The remaining winners were not there to receive their prize but the cash will be paid directly into their bank accounts.

People's Postcode Lottery ambassador Jeff Brazier was in New Ferry to hand out the cheques, he said: "What a pleasure it was to meet Jane and Laura and hear how much the prize means to them.

"I’m sure they will all have a great time celebrating their good fortune.

“This is the start of a very busy month for us at People’s Postcode Lottery, and I hope I’m back in the area with some more big cheques soon!”

The £30,000 prize is part of a special summer campaign where a postcode is announced as a winner of the Street Prize every day.

Around 32% of ticket sales go to charities and good causes - The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity received £20,000 last year from People's Postcode Lottery to help provide emotional and physical support to people living with cancer.
