THE CURRENT tenants of a popular pub have announced they will be leaving at the end of July.

John Turner and his team at The Nags Head in Lavister made the announcement on Tuesday, and although the pub will stop serving food on July 28, it will remain open until new tenants are in place, which could be by the end of August.

A statement said: "It is with regret that we will be closing our kitchen doors on Sunday, July 28. However, to aid the Brewery’s handing over of the Nag’s Head to a new team; the doors will remain open for drinks until the handover has taken place, which we anticipate to be late August (date to be confirmed).

"In the meantime we will continue to deliver great food and service with a big smile and keep you updated with regards to the incoming team.

"Finally, the team would like to thank all of our loyal customers for supporting us during our time at the Nag’s Head."

The Nags Head is owned by Enterprise Inns (EI) and they have confirmed the process for finding new operators is well underway.

A spokesperson for EI Publican Partnerships said: “We can confirm the current publicans at the Nags Head, Lavister will be leaving following their decision to end their agreement. We would like to reassure the local community that the pub will remain open and we are in discussions with potential operators to take the site on."
