HUNDREDS of pounds have been raised from a Chester shopping centre's event to promote health and well-being.

The weekend of activities at the Grosvenor Shopping Centre helped to collect £826 in aid of Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and the centre’s charity of the year, Hospice of the Good Shepherd.

The ‘One Great Day’ charity event was run with the help of award-winning Nuffield Health and weight-loss organisation LighterLife and money was raised through shoppers' generous donations.

Visitors to the centre were invited to participate in fun workshops organised by local businesses including a penalty shoot-out zone by early years football club, FootiCubs.

Carden Park Hotel was also in attendance, offering shoppers a chance to win a luxury spa day for two in its new spa.

The focus of the charity event was to highlight the importance of keeping the family healthy. From 10am-4pm Saturday and 11am-4pm Sunday, the Grosvenor Shopping Centre’s aim was to encourage shoppers to remain active and healthy to maintain a positive wellbeing.

Julie Webb, Grosvenor Shopping Centre manager, said: “We are pleased to have raised a substantial sum of money for two well-deserving charities.

“It’s important, especially in the summer when the days are longer to encourage our friends and family to stay active.

"We hope visitors enjoyed the fun activities over the weekend and continue to spread our message of health and well-being."
