'DISGUSTING' vandals have targeted a First World War memorial in Flintshire.
A wooden 'Tommy' silhouette, designed last year to mark the centenary of World War One, has been snapped.
The silhouetted figure, situated outside Sandy Lane Community Centre, was donated to the community of Saltney by local charity Woodwork for Wellness in November of last year.
But it has now been damaged at the hand of vandals, as a 'Tommy' fellow silhouette was twice in Mold last year.
Cllr Veronica Gay, county councillor for Saltney Stonebridge, said the town is now at 'breaking point' with vandalism, with other recent instances involving damage to newly planted trees and a spate at Saltney Town Football Club.
She said: "To target something like this is and what it represents is just disgusting.
"My Dad served in the war but luckily came home, but I know many people whose Dad didn't.
"It's heartbreaking to see what vandals are doing to this town, what is going on? We need CCTV on the Sandy Lane Community Centre now, with all the trouble the football club (who play at the playing fields on the site) have had and now this.
"I'm sorry but enough's enough. Saltney just doesn't get the same support other towns in Flintshire get."
A North Wales Police spokesman confirmed a call at 2.05pm on July 1 reporting of vandalism to a First World War silhouette and that enquiries are ongoing.
