A MIFFED mum from Ellesmere Port has a chilling message to the louts who vandalised her lovingly-crafted scarecrow: “He’s hungry!”

Kate Roberts spent £20 on her creation – named Sam - for the first ever Little Sutton Scarecrow Festival before proudly displaying him outside her house.

The event, which aimed to boost community pride and spirit in the area, ran from June 23 to 30 and has been hailed a success.

But Kate said she had sadly been forced to carry out repairs to Sam every morning for the past week after mindless kids thought it would be funny to damage him.

The horror-fan joked that she hoped he came alive and took his revenge on the culprits.

She said: “My scarecrow hasn’t eaten for 30 days so they best keep an eye out. He’s hungry!”

Kate told The Standard that she had decided to join in the scarecrow-making fun and made Sam out of plastic cartons from the recycling bin as well as other odds and ends.

She then dressed him in suitably scary garb and called on her adult son to help lift the 12-foot scarecrow into place.

Venting her frustration on Facebook on Saturday night (June 29), she said: “I made a scarecrow for the Little Sutton festival. It took me ages and I spent money on it.

"It was up for a week and every night I’ve had to go out and fix him. He’s been ripped open and taken to pieces but I just fixed him back together.

“Tonight I’ve had to take him down because they’ve bent the frame and he’s snapped. The kids are at Whitby and only 14/15. I’m gutted.”

Kate said Sam was destined for the recycling lorry this week.

The scarecrow festival was organised by the PALS group (Positive Action for Little Sutton) and saw more than 200 residents, families, schools and nurseries get involved.

It will form part of the village’s contribution to this year’s Ellesmere Port In Bloom bid.
