PARENTS are being reassured after a high school was partial lockdown today due to a 'minor incident' that turned out to be a smashed window in a corridor.

Police attended Ellesmere Port Catholic High on Capenhurst Lane this morning and parents were contacted saying the school was in 'partial lockdown'.

The school told parents that there was no cause for concern.

Later in the morning (Friday, June 21), the school told parents that police were in attendance and lessons were due to start as normal.

People in the school reported hearing a loud bang when the window cracked.

Now, police are reassuring parents and pupils following the incident.

At 10.38, officers were called to reports of concerns for safety at the school.

Officers attended and found that a window had been smashed. The exact cause of the damage is currently unknown.

Inspector Paul Fegan said: “We are aware of a number of rumours circulating in relation to this incident, and we would like to reassure the community that there is not believed to be a risk to pupils or teachers.

“The window that was smashed was in a corridor, which was unoccupied at the time of the incident, and nobody sustained any injuries."

On social media, people have speculated that a person was seen with a knife or screwdriver - but this has NOT been confirmed by police.

The window is being replaced and engineers are investigating the cause.

Anyone with any information in relation to the damage is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101, quoting IML 433974.

There was no answer at the school when the Standard called for a comment.
