A GROUP of travellers will be evicted from a car park in Winsford after the council successfully sought a court order this morning.

Magistrates in Chester heard that one caravan and two vehicles had illegally occupied the public car park on Church Street, close to a housing estate, for more than a week.

Cheshire West and Chester Council’s gypsy and traveller liaison officer had visited the site on June 13 and spoken to the travellers – two adults and four children.

One child was said to be unwell, and the mother wished him to see a health visitor, but apart from that there were no other issues.

They had been ordered to leave but as of this morning (Thursday, June 20) the caravan and vehicles remained on the site.

This left the council with no choice other than to seek a ‘direction to leave’ order, which was granted at Chester Magistrates Court.

The order, made under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, allows the authority to take ‘reasonable steps to ensure compliance’.
