HEAVY rain in the build-up to the weekend did not deter thousands of punters from going to Chester Racecourse for the Summer Saturday event.
Attendance was down by about 3,000 on recent years due to the open course closure, which was a direct result of the terrible weather the city had endured in the days preceding the meeting.
But a crowd of 18,035 was still present to watch the racing action unfold during the afternoon.
The next racing fixture on the calendar is the Ladies Evening on Friday, June 28.
The first tournament Chester Polo Club tournament of 2019, The White Oak UK Polo Series, has also been a victim of the heavy weather.
It was due to take place this Friday and Saturday, June 21-22, but has now been postponed to September 6-7.
