CHESTER Little Theatre’s latest production is a clever, mind-bending thriller written by Anthony Horowitz, whose work includes popular TV series such as Foyle’s War and Midsomer Murders.

In Mindgame, Horowitz, who is also author of the Alex Rider series, as well as recent James Bond and Sherlock Holmes novels, lets his imagination run wild.

Mark Styler is a published, true-crime writer. His subject is serial murderers and, after years of trying, he has finally managed to get an interview with the famed killer, Easterman.

He arrives at Fairfields Secure Psychiatric Hospital to keep his appointment but is shown into the the director’s office and left waiting.

When the Director, Dr Farquhar, finally arrives he immediately encourages Styler to leave.

Nurse Paisley, one of Easterman’s care team, seems to be warning him of something. But what? Styler becomes increasingly anxious. His suspicions seem justified: Fairfields is far from being a safe haven.

This psychological thriller promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats, with its clever and intriguing twists and turns complemented by dark humour.

Mindgame contains strong language and depictions of violence; recommended age 15 and older.

Directed by Mark Townend, its cast welcomes back Alex Wight (seen in Moonshine and The Miser), Richard Newton (Improbable Fiction) and Beth Anderson (Moonshine and Spectrum).
