A super smart family from Watford will be taking on other families in the new BBC quiz show Family Brain Games.

The Mohammed family is headed by IT professional Iqbal, 49, and Bushra, 40, who holds a diploma in commerce. Their two children Zain and Haris are both gifted in maths.

Iqbal studied computer science at Glasgow University, while Bushra, the instigator behind the family debates, was raised in Pakistan and learned English as a second language.

Zain, 14, loves engineering, maths and IT and has been taking part in the Leonardo's Engineering course. He was selected to take part in the regional maths challenge where he represented his age group for his school.

Last year, Haris, 12, competed in a maths challenge where he managed to score the highest marks in his year group and has a huge back catalogue of maths certificates. He is learning to speak Urdu and Arabic.

Speaking about taking part in the show, Iqbal said: “It sounded like quite an interesting programme and we wanted to see where we stood in comparison with others and to see how we worked together as a unit.

“We all have individual intelligence and work quite well together, so I think we have as good a chance as anyone else (of winning).”

Iqbal added the family were looking forward to seeing “how it is played on TV” when the show is broadcast for the first time.

He continued: “It’s one thing to be taking part in something and seeing how it’s filmed.

“It’s always interesting to then see how it is presented.”

The series, hosted by Dara O Briain, follows eight families over the course of two weeks who will go head-to-head in a series of "ingenious" games.
