THE King’s School Chester has opened the doors to its new £4.5m state-of-the-art Sports Centre.

The project incorporates a multi-purpose dance studio, ergo room, fully equipped gym and new changing room and classroom facilities.

King’s plays in the region of 1,000 fixtures per year in competitive sports but also seeks to share its facilities with community organisations and sports clubs.

The new development will give the local sporting community the opportunity to use the much-improved amenities, which are designed to increase participation and a ‘sport for all’ culture amongst students.

Headteacher George Hartley said: “We are absolutely delighted that our fantastic new Sports Centre is open, not just because of the obvious benefits to all our pupils, but also in anticipation of its use by the local community.

"Such excellent facilities support our aim to provide ‘sport for all’ at King’s and also to ensure that we play a really positive role at the heart of the Chester community.”

The multi-purpose dance studio will be used for classes such as yoga, Pilates and gymnastic and students and parents are now able to enjoy refreshments in the Terrace Café - a name chosen by the pupils last year.

The school will be hosting an official opening for the Sports Centre on July 9 when double World and Olympic Champion Rebecca Romero OBE will cut the ribbon on the new facility.
