ELLESMERE PORT residents will turn out in force to next month to mark this year's Armed Forces Day.

On Saturday, June 23, a service will take place and flowers will be laid at the town's Civic Square.

There will then be an exhibition of memorabilia and photographs of ex-service personnel, plus stands promoting support services offered to ex-service personnel locally.

Members of the Armed Forces, emergency services, veterans, cadets, and vehicles will be in and around the Ellesmere Port Arcades Shopping Centre, between 9am and 4pm, on the day.

This year, there will also be an RAF jet flight simulator for people to enjoy the Top Gun experience.

A Green Goddess vehicle will once again roll into town, with youngsters invited to hop on board.

Ellesmere Port's Armed Forces Day is organised by a steering group with members including representation from various ex-service organisations.

The group is also in contact with the Royal British Naval Association, RBL, WRVS and WI and all cadet organisations.

There will be similar events throughout the country to mark Armed Forces Day, including the national event in Salisbury.
