AN INQUEST has been opened and adjourned into the death of a firefighter who died after a road traffic accident.

Michael Cheetham, 40, of Eagle Lane in Little Sutton, died on Monday, April 15, after a morning collision between a car and a motorcycle on the A5 Pagod Bends near Betws-y-Coed.

Joanne Lees, assistant coroner for North Wales (East and Central), told a hearing held in Ruthin that Mr Cheetham was the rider of a Honda motorbike.

Police had earlier reported that the driver of a Volkswagen Sharan vehicle involved in the collision received minor injuries.

Sgt Jason Diamond, of the North Wales Police Roads Policing Unit, said: "Our thoughts remain with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.

"We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have seen either vehicle prior to the collision to come forward.

"Equally anybody who may have been travelling along the A5 near Betws-y-Coed and who may have dash cam is also asked to make contact with us.”
