A BARGE caught fire on the canal in Waverton.
Fire crews from Chester and Tarporley were called to the fire on the Shropshire Union Canal off Long Lane just after 9pm last night (Wednesday, April 24).
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters attended a barge on fire on the Shropshire Union canal off Long Lane Waverton.
"Crews used two hose reel jets, two main jets and two breathing apparatus to put out the fire. They then used a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots.
"Crews were at the scene for three and a quarter hours."
