LIKE many of us Indali the baby elephant spent the Easter weekend enjoying the sunshine with her family.
She may not have received any chocolate eggs - but for the elephant calf at Chester Zoo it is another hopeful sign that she is on the road to recovery.
At the beginning of the month "little fighter" Indali entered a recovery phase after showing symptoms of a killer elephant herpes virus, EEHV.
In the latest update on Indali's progress, a zoo spokesperson said: "Indali continues to look well and seems to be enjoying being outside in the sunshine, playing with her little brother, Anjan.
"She’s still being monitored very closely but, as each day passes, we’re ever more hopeful that she’s on the road to recovery."
Over the last month, Indali has undergone intensive daily treatments to help her fight off the virus: including anaesthetic procedures, innovative blood plasma transfusions, interferon therapy, anti-viral medications and immune boosting treatments.
Chester Zoo scientists, in partnership with The University of Surrey and APHA, are continuing the search for a vaccine for EEHV, which is critical to protect both wild and zoo elephant herds globally.
Indali will continue to be monitored daily.
