CHRISTIANS from all the major churches in Ellesmere Port gathered for their annual walk of witness through the town.

Lt Jane Spencer, CO led the Good Friday service at the Salvation Army with hymns, Bible readings and reflections, then outside for the procession of the Cross through the town, following the beat of Canon Gordon McGuiness’s drum, stopping at various points for reflection and silent prayers.

Two of the cross bearers, Parviz Shirkihawod and Sharom Jucied, are asylum seekers from Iran, where they had been tortured for their Christian beliefs.

The cross was erected outside Trinity Methodist Church and, after a short service, it was inside the cafe for tea and hot cross buns.

The Easter Sunday sunrise service started at 7.30am led by Paster Peter Peters with Easter hymns and reflections, after which it was in to the church for tea and a Danish pastry.
