PATIENTS at Ellesmere Port Hospital had to be evacuated from their ward following concerns of a gas leak.

The incident in Chester Road was reported to Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service at 11.31pm on Monday, April 15.

Two fire engines attended from Ellesmere Port and, on arrival at the scene, the team discovered all patients had been safely evacuated from the affected area.

The team used a gas detector to check the affected area and discovered the leak had been caused by a faulty refrigeration tank.

The refrigeration tank was removed from the building and the patients were returned to the ward.

Firefighters were in attendance for about two hours and 30 minutes.
