AN INQUEST will look at concerns raised about the care of a woman prior to her death at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

A second pre-inquest hearing has been held into the death of Catherine Lisa Jones, 35, originally from Chester but living in Hawarden, at the hospital on November 10, 2016.

At the hearing held in Ruthin John Gittins, coroner for North East Wales and Central, said: "Concerns were raised that while the cause of death was indicative of a natural disease process, there are questions pertaining to the care and treatment under the health board over a period of months."

An initial pre-inquest hearing was held in February 2018 but Mr Gittins adjourned it as he felt “further lines of inquiry are necessary".

He added: "My intention now is to see where the land lies."

The solicitor acting on behalf of Mrs Jones' husband David and her family, and the legal team for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, have been given until May 1 to provide written submissions to Mr Gittins while he determines whether there should be a jury at the full inquest, and whether it should be held under Article 2 conditions.

An Article 2 inquest is wider in scope than an 'ordinary' inquest and is prompted by healthcare concerns.

The next pre-inquest hearing into Mrs Jones' death is scheduled to take place on June 13.
