A FOOTBALL tournament will be held this weekend in memory of a young Dodleston man who died in the Hillsborough tragedy.

The 30 Year Hillsborough Commemorative 5 a Side Competition is in memory of Henry Charles Rogers, one of the 96 who died, and his brother Adam Rogers who passed away six months

after the disaster.

The event will take place on Saturday and Sunday on Dodleston Sports Field, Dodleston CH4 9NN.

There will be music, a funfair, food and a bar.

Liverpool legend Ian Rush and Margaret Aspinall, the chair of the Hillsborough Family Support Group, will attend on the Saturday.

The tournament's website says: "On 15 April, 1989, four young lads from Dodleston near Chester went to the Hillsborough football stadium in Sheffield.

"Carl Willis, Phil Greenough and brothers Adam and Henry Rogers went to watch their beloved Liverpool FC play Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup semi-final.

"Only three of them returned home.

"Henry was lost that day and 6 months later Adam, who suffered with diabetes and also suffering from the trauma of Hillsborough and the loss of his brother, died from insufficient insulin levels.

"The lads had been part of an active 5 a Side team and following the loss of Henry and Adam, Carl and Phil organised the “Henry Charles Rogers Memorial” 5 a side competition which ran for the following 10 years .

"The same event was held on the 15th and 20th year anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster and the loss of Henry and Adam.

This month, Carl wanted to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the disaster.

Passionate that Henry and Adam are not forgotten, with the help of Paul Buchanan and Mike Maughan from Dodleston Parish Council, Carl came up with the idea of “NEVER 4 GET” - an event to commemorate the 30th year and to make sure that we “Never Forget” Henry and Adam, all of the 96 who died at Hillsborough, and those families affected by the disaster.

All profits from the event will be split between Zoes Place Childrens Hospice in Liverpool and the LFC Foundation.

The juniors competition takes place on Saturday (April 13) with the seniors tournament on Sunday.
