THE death of a former director of the price comparison website Moneysupermarket was probably drugs-related, an inquest has been told.

Sean Thweny, 51, found dead at his home near Marbella in Spain on February 25, was identified by his wife Nadia.

Mr Thweny was director of business development for the Ewloe-based company from 2000 until 2009 when he was one of three managers who each received one million shares from Simon Nixon, the company founder.

He has lived in Spain since then.

At the opening of an inquest in Ruthin John Gittins, coroner for North Wales East and Central, said Mr Thweny’s body had been repatriated into his area although the family’s links were in Chester.

He said the paperwork he had received from Spain indicated that the provisional cause of death was “linked to the use of drugs”.

Mr Thweny’s sister, Julie Dodge, had confirmed that he had a history of drug-taking.

“But the full cause of death is not yet known,” said Mr Gittins.

The inquest was adjourned until later this year but the coroner said that based on past dealings with the Spanish authorities it could take longer.

Mr Thweny’s funeral will take place on Friday, April, 12 at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Francis Street, Chester, followed by interment in Blacon Cemetery.

Donations in lieu of flowers will be received towards Narcotics Anonymous.
