AN EVENT will be held to bust myths surrounding greyhounds at Dogs Trust Merseyside.

The team from the rehoming centre will hold the 'Meet and Greet a Greyhound' event on Monday, April 8 in a bid to help the centre's nine greyhound residents find forever homes.

It will educate visitors about the breed which they say is often misunderstood.

Manager at Dogs Trust Merseyside Georgina Lowery said: “We are determined to debunk the myths about Greyhounds!

"People tend to think greyhounds needs lots of exercise due to their racing history, but that’s not always the case. Often they like nothing more than cosying up on a comfy bed in a warm home and they are very loyal dogs.

“People often also think, for example, they can’t live with cats or small animals but that isn’t necessarily the case either, so we’re hoping that by holding this awareness event we can help people understand more about greyhounds and find ours their forever homes.”

The team will be on hand to share facts such as they're believed to be the fasted dog breed on the planet and they are one of the oldest dog breeds in existence.

Centre staff will also be on hand to chat about the greyhounds waiting for their forever homes, including ex-racer Ronny who is typical of the breed.

Georgina added: “They are lovely dogs and just like Ronny, many can live with children and other dogs so we really hope dog-lovers give these great Greyhounds the second chance they deserve to live a happy life in a loving home.

"It would be wonderful if by shining the spotlight on them we help them all find their special someone.”

The event will take place from 12pm to 1pm at Dogs Trust Merseyside, Whiston Lane, Huyton, L36 6HP, on Monday, April 8 and will include free refreshments.
