A suspected hacker has been charged after a cyber attack on Cheshire Police’s website.

The force’s site was down for a number of hours on August 28, 2018 after a deliberate denial of service (DDoS) attack from a third party.

Greater Manchester Police's website was also targeted last Friday.

A teenager from Lancashire has been charged in relation to the attacks.

Liam Watts, from Chorley, is charged with two counts of unauthorised acts with intent to impair the operation of or prevent and hinder access to a computer.

The 19-year-old has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Chester Magistrates Court to face these charges today, Thursday.
