A TAKEAWAY worker made more than £64,000 out of drug dealing.

In December 2018, Ka Wau Luong was jailed for four and a half years.

Now Luong, 30, at the time of the Wok Right Inn on Chester Street, Flint, has now appeared back at Mold Crown Court via a live television link from prison, for a financial hearing under The Proceeds of Crime Act.

Judge Merfyn Hughes QC made an agreed order under which his criminal benefit was declared at £64,294.

But the available amount to confiscate was said to be £21,132.

Prosecuting, Maria Massellis said that amount had been seized in cash when a warrant was executed by North Wales Police and it remained in police possession.

He was formally given seven days to pay and was told that in default he would have to serve an additional three years.

But Luong said that he had already signed the necessary papers for the money to be paid over.

Asked by the judge about the outstanding amount, Miss Massellis said if the defendant came into further funds then a fresh application would be made by the prosecution.

An earlier hearing was told that on December 21, 2017, police executed a warrant at the restaurant.

Officers found about 3.5kgs of cannabis worth up to £39,000 on the street and cocaine worth up to £3,500 and thousands of pounds in cash.

He and his brother both admitted being concerned in supplying cannabis between January 1, 2015 to December 22, 2017, but Luong admitted a further three charges on December 21, 2017, of possession of cannabis with intent to supply, possession of cocaine with intent to supply and possession of £21,000 criminal property.

Miss Masselis said Luong's phone was checked which showed messages related to the supply of cannabis referencing several different types including "lemon haze".

It was claimed Luong had got into drug dealing to clear debts and then realised he could make money out of it.

He was said to be hugely remorseful and deeply ashamed of the shame he has brought to his family.

Judge Niclas Parry told him: "It was about two years that you were responsible for supplying cannabis, but also cocaine in Flint which has been blighted by drug misuse."
