A POLICE investigation is under way after a community fire station's public car park was locked shut, meaning members of the public were unable to get out.
Teenage boys are suspected to have been behind the crime, which happened on Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3 at Malpas Community Fire Station, Chester Road, Malpas.
Police say the youths are believed to have closed the gate to the drill yard and public car park at the back of the station on Saturday afternoon and locked it shut.
This meant firefighters had to break the lock open to enable the cars to get out.
Crews had to do so again after the gate was locked shut for a second time the following afternoon.
A police spokesperson said: "Anti-social behaviour and causing criminal damage can have a big impact and in this case members of the public were unable to get out of the car park.
"Officers investigating the incidents will review CCTV footage from the fire station."
Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should call police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident number IML 337518.
