A MAN and an accomplice walked into Boots at Prestatyn and stole sunglasses valued at £2,950.

One of them had previously stolen a £760 electric drill from the Boyes and Bowden builder's merchant's in Bretton, near Broughton.

Chef Timothy Mills, 34, of Penmon Close in Blacon, Chester, admitted two theft offences when he appeared from custody at North East Wales Magistrates Court at Mold.

He was placed on a 12 month community order with 15 days rehabilitation to include an alcohol and bereavement counselling.

Mills was also ordered to carry out 120 hours unpaid work.

Probation officer Andrew Connah said Mills accepted he had been stupid, had been affected by peer pressure and was embarrassed by his behaviour.

His "head had been everywhere" and two weeks ago he had lost his employment.

But with his qualifications finding employment would not be a problem for him.

Solicitor Huw Roberts, defending, said although they were both high value shoplifting offences but the sunglasses had been recovered.

Prosecutor Justin Espie said the two men fled Boots store when they were confronted and a get-away vehicle was driven off at speed.

Police stopped the car 20 minutes later at Deeside Industrial Park and the vehicle had been seized.

The stolen sunglasses were found in the vehicle.

The theft of the drill, which also involved two men, took place in April of last year.
