THIS is the moment a kind-hearted white van driver came to the rescue of a Cheshire couple stranded in a deep pool of flood water.

Heavy rain on Wednesday night and Thursday morning caused problems across Flintshire including flooded roads and two school closures.

Adrian and Rene Hancock from Crewe found themselves stuck in the water at a junction on the border of Rhewl Mostyn as they were heading towards Prestatyn.

Mr Hancock had got out of the car - which had begun to float - and tried to push it back to the road, to no avail.

But white van driver Paul Owens from Trelogan came to the rescue.

Mr Owens, a mechanical fitter at Mostyn Dock, was able to attach a rope to the couple's car and pull it out of the water.

Speaking after the incident, Mr Hancock explained: "We were going to see my wife's mother who is in a care home in Prestatyn.

"This is the way we always come but we just came around the corner and we were in it.

"It is one of these small floods but the car was actually floating."

Speaking of Mr Owens' timely arrival at the scene, he added: "I think he's a fantastic bloke.

"To get someone to do something like that is wonderful and it restores your faith in humanity, doesn't it?"
