A CHESTER theatre school held a bake sale in aid of an eating disorder charity.

Razzamataz Chester raised £120 for Beat by hosting the event at the Northgate Arena.

Speaking about why they wanted to raise money for Beat, Chloe Lee, principal of Razzamataz Chester, said: “It's really important for us as performers and those studying the arts to be aware of Charities like Beat.

"Eating disorders can affect anyone, but there is a certain stigma attached to being a dancer or a performer, so we wanted to raise awareness of this issue and to educate our students.

“Our classes loved preparing for our bake sale and are so pleased with the amount raised for this amazing charity.”

An estimated 1.25 million people in the UK suffer from eating disorders – serious mental illnesses that include binge eating disorder, anorexia, bulimia and other types.

Beat’s community fundraising officer Emily Battersby-Case said: “It’s inspiring to see how passionate Razzamataz Chester are about creating a culture where people feel cared for and know where to get help.

“Their fundraising will do so much to raise awareness and help ensure that eating disorder sufferers get support.

“Last year Beat directly supported over 17,000 people and this year we will help more than 30,000. The dedication of everyone at Razzamataz Chester and other fundraisers like them is essential in achieving that goal.”
