A CHESTER fundraiser will hit new heights while collecting money for a cause in memory of her stepdad.

Elizabeth Jones, 24, of Blacon, will take part in a 15,000ft tandem skydive on April 5.

The former Waverton Primary and Christleton High School pupil is looking to raise as much money as possible for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Elizabeth was inspired to do so after her stepdad Des Hughes, a floor restorer for Living Floors in Chester, passed away.

She explained: "I am raising money as my amazing stepdad died on August 13, 2017 at the Hospice of the Good Shepherd after being diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer on April 5, 2017 at the age of 46.

"He only had four months to try and fight it and this is a common thing for those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It isn’t detected early enough and there have been no medical advances in 40 years.

"It needs more awareness and Pancreatic Cancer UK are currently petitioning for earlier treatment. They are a great charity who not only raise awareness and funds towards treatments but they also provide a fantastic support function to those suffering with PC and their families and friends, as they did for us."

Elizabeth, a recruitment consultant for Proactive Personnel in Chester, will also be raising further funds by taking part in this year's Gung-Ho! 5k inflatable obstacle course at Chester Racecourse on June 1.

She added: "I have done indoor skydiving before at the Chill Factory and nearly fell out of the door but that’s the closest thing. That was an interesting experience but I can imagine it being very different jumping out of a plane at 15,000ft!

"I am looking forward to the skydive, I think it will be an experience that I will never forget. I am slightly nervous but over the moon to be representing and raising awareness for such an amazing, credible charity Pancreatic Cancer UK.

"I know my stepddad would have absolutely loved to watch me doing this. He would be very proud, and I am sure he will be laughing his head off wherever he is!"
