REDS fans took their opportunity to quiz the club's new management team last night.

Dozens of supporters attended a 'Meet the Manager' night at the Racecourse Ground's Centenary Club, to put manager Graham Barrow and assistant Mike Newell on the spot and both were well-received by the fans.

It was many Reds' fans first chance to meet the new men at the helm and after hearing all about the background and experience in the game, wasted no time in putting their questions, ranging from tactics to transfers.

Graham Barrow revealed he tried to talk previous manager Sam Ricketts out of leaving the club for Shrewsbury Town.

He added that he thought about applying for his predecessor's role when sifting through CV's in the search for a replacement, and that he spoke to Belgium manager Roberto Martinez before stepping into the Racecourse Ground hot-seat himself.

On Ricketts leaving, he said: "It's hard to speak for someone's decision.

"I tried to talk him into staying because this is a bigger club, bigger support and once you start something you should try to finish it off. It was disappointing for me."

His assistant Mike Newell said he quit days spent on the golf course to play his part on trying to guide Wrexham back to the Football League.

He said: "Whatever you say about the Salford's, Forest Green's and Crawley's you've got a history and you can't buy that.

"Everything is in place here. It's a fantastic opportunity for me. The place has massive potential and the fans are feeling it after 10 or 11 years outside of the Football League so to even be a minor part of getting the team back to that place is a massive carrot."

After a run of four defeats, and still yet to score a goal in 2019, both men ended the evening vowing to get the Reds' back on form starting with Saturday's trip to AFC Fylde.
