BESSIE Lee celebrated her 100th birthday in style at Vale Court Care Home in Ellesmere Port.

She was surrounded by her family, friends, care home staff, and visited by the Port’s deputy mayor, Paul Donovan.

Bessie was born in an 18th century cottage in Rake Lane, Stanney, in January 1919 and has lived in Ellesmere Port all her life.

She had three daughters and worked as a home help for many years, caring for elderly and disabled people.

Bessie was delighted to receive a birthday card from the Queen and a telegram from The Secretary of State, Amber Rudd.

At the celebration she made an emotional speech thanking all the family, friends, Cllr Donovan, and care home staff for all the lovely cards, flowers, gifts and kind wishes that had made her day so very special.

Right, Bessie celebrates her birthday.
