RUNNERS in Chester are being urged to snap up one of the final few remaining places on this year's Chester 10K.

The running scene in Chester has got off to a flying start this year, say the organisers of the Aldi Chester 10K, due to be held on March 10.

The event – the second to be held in the city – is now very close to selling out.

Chris Hulse of Active Leisure Events, which is organising the Aldi Chester 10K, said: “There was a massive turnout for Chester Parkrun on New Year’s Day, then days later we saw a record number of people turning up for our first half marathon/10K training run of the year from our new venue at the Chester FC stadium. It’s all gone bonkers!”

The inaugural running of the 10K race in 2018 was a complete sell-out and, even though the capacity of the event has been doubled for this year, the race is already over 95 per cent full.

“We are delighted to have Aldi on board as title sponsor for this year’s race and the Teenage Cancer Trust as the main race charity,” added Chris. “Also new this year is a special challenge. Run the Aldi Chester 10K, the Essar Chester 2019 Half Marathon and either the MBNA Chester Marathon or Metric Marathon and you’ll receive a unique Chester Triple Medal. A perfect reward for running the three events in one year.”

The course starts near the Northgate Arena on Victoria Crescent and heads north west out of the city along wide roads allowing runners to settle into race pace. They will then route through the picturesque village of Mollington before returning to the heart of Chester City centre via a gradual climb up Parkgate Road and finishing outside the Town Hall and Cathedral.

Joint race organiser Andy White added: “Anyone who has experienced the Essar Chester Half Marathon will know that the runners can expect a spectacular finish at the Town Hall square with fantastic support from the crowds and marshals. When they cross the line, finishers will receive a well-deserved tech T-shirt, bespoke medal and goody bag.”
