CHESHIRE’S finest young athletes were treated to a festive afternoon to remember when they decided to put down the netball and pick up some skates at Liverpool’s Ice Festival.

The 10 youngsters jumped at the opportunity to enjoy some festive fun after achieving amazing success earlier this the year by being selected to join Cheshire’s netballing elite.

More than 170 youngsters from across the county were invited to trial and 10 of the netballers from Chester Netball Club Under 12 age group were put through a tough two-stage selection process. This resulted in all of them being selected to represent Cheshire County Netball.

Coach Kathy Ebbrell said: “I know these girls have the talent and determination to keep on succeeding and I’m delighted that their ability has been recognised at this level.

These girls work hard and show commitment week in, week out and I’m sure they’ll enjoy the opportunity to have some well-deserved time out this Christmas. Although they’ll be back in to training!”

The chance to enjoy ice skating at Liverpool’s only outdoor ice rink at the famous Pier Head came as the city prepares to welcome the Netball World Cup this year.

Bobbi Wiley, manager of the Under 12s Chester Netball Team, added: “Liverpool is on our doorstep and the chance to come back again in 2019 for the biggest tournament the sport can host is hugely exciting. The girls can’t wait to see their heroes in action. Our girls work hard to achieve success at such a young age and we’re delighted they’ve had the chance to enjoy some festive fun this Christmas in Liverpool.”

Chester’s Under 12 top 10 are Ella Ogley, Hannah Fullerton, Lois Cormack, Eva Howitt, Hana Wiley, Ffion Evans, Macie Farr, Grace Roberts, Izzy Terry and Lucy Gow.
