ELLESMERE PORT youngster Poppy-Mae Jones has brought plenty of festive cheer to poorly children at Alder Hey Children's Hospital this Christmas.
The five-year-old, a Matalan and Alder Hey Hospital ambassador, has a chronic bowel condition and had previously been treated and cared for at the hospital.
Mum Sharon Jones said Cambridge Road Primary School pupil Poppy-Mae was inspired to help other children at the hospital, many of whom have had to spend this Christmas undergoing treatment there.
A festive toy appeal was set up with a launch party at The Rake pub in Little Stanney, and donations of funds and toys just kept rolling in.
Mum Sharon explained the appeal had been a big hit.
She said: "Poppy-Mae handed over 14 boxes and five big bags full of toys and have a total over just over £1,200 – that includes gift aid on Justgiving – to Alder Hey just before Christmas."
And there is good news for Poppy-Mae herself, as surgery to treat her condition is expected to happen early in the new year.
