A MAN who glassed a woman in the face following an argument at a bar in Chester has been jailed.

Kenneth Kennedy, of Greenfield Lane, Hoole Village, was sentenced to two years six months in prison at Chester Crown Court on Friday.

The 39-year-old had earlier been found guilty of section 20 assault on the victim.

On Monday, November 6, 2017, the victim, a 24-year-old woman was drinking with friends at a public house on Nelson Street, when Kennedy arrived alone.

Due to previous animosity between the pair, the woman went outside into the beer garden and began to speak to another friend.

Kennedy followed the woman and attempted to intervene in her conversation.

The victim asked Kennedy to leave and threw a drink over him, he then hit the victim in the face with a pint glass, causing her to sustain cuts to her lip and nostril.

Detective Constable Peta Ticer said: “This all began as a petty argument between two people and could easily have been avoided, but instead it has resulted in one person serving a significant prison sentence.

“The case has also come at a substantial cost to the taxpayer. Not only is there the cost of the police investigation and the prison sentence handed to Kennedy, but there is also the medical cost of the cosmetic surgery the victim has had to undergo as a result of the attack.”
